BIM & IFC with SEMA
What is BIM?
Building Information Modeling is a process for creating and managing information on a construction project across the project lifecycle. BIM is changing the way project teams work with information about buildings, for better planning, design, construction and operations.
SEMA provides the high-quality import of IFC, DXF/DWG data and a great number of other CAD data formats for the perfect exchange of:
• layout plans
• top views
• views
• building sections
• 3D objects
Additionally, SEMA offers high-quality data export of DXF 2D and 3D as well as 3D files. Architects can, thus, check the structural analysis and other details of the building project.
The IFC data interface is a standardised data format and the basis for the mutual information exchange between all partners involved in the planning process (BIM).

Unlike the conventional exchange of mere 2D or 3D line, surface or volume models, users here benefit from an "intelligent" data model, the IFC cross-program model - with clear advantages: users cannot only transfer mere geometric information (such as, material specifications and U-values), but also additional information relevant to the ongoing execution of the project through the definition of attributes.
In order to make the processing of storeys, walls, windows, doors, roof areas and ceilings easier, these will be transformed into real SEMA components even during the import by means of the appropriate definition of additional attributes. All other components will be read-in as 3D objects, including all the geometric information and the relevant positions.
Users no longer have to repeatedly enter data thanks to the accessing of data already defined in different software by the users - a saving of time and money along with a reduced error rate.
Needless to say, projects created or further processed in the SEMA software can be exported again as IFC-xml-files for data exchange with other programs.
